At the end of the 19th century, there was a group of Spanish composers that retook their musical past and identity, coinciding with the ideals of nationalism and the literary tradition of the 98 Generation. They failed when they tried to create a Spanish opera, they were a few symphonic orchestras. Foreign composers use Spanish folk, offering an exotic and picturesque image of Spain (such as Bizet in the opera “Carmen”). This context led Spanish composers to see the necessity of analyzing and retaking the folk and the plays of the past, like the case of Felipe Pedrell. The most important composers in this movement are Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Turina, Joaquín Rodrigo, Federico Mompou and Jesús Guridi.
