FILM MUSIC ANALYSIS
CHARIOTS OF FIRE
FILM MAKER: HUGH HUDSON
-
Original Soundtrack, composed by John Vangelis.
-
Non-diegetic music: we don't see the performers of the music or any device that can reproduces it.
-
Integrated music: it announces and underlines main values transmitted by the film: sacrifice courage that the competition requires, the fight of a person to overcome oneself, to face chanllenges, to seat goals and not to give up.
-
Convergent music: the same previous explanation.
-
Generic bloc: it's the beginning of the film and this music sounds at the same time the credits are displayed.
-
Music in a first plane: it sounds in a high volume and underlines the flasch-back to the past, from the funeral to the race on the beach. It's a tool to do join both sequences. Also, the slow rhythm of the music is synchronized with the speed of the reproduction of the image, notably slowed down.
